Official: Manchester United confirm signing of goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea.

De Gea spoke to the club’s official television station about his delight with the move: “I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here,
“When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy.
"I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability.
"It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I'm keen to do my best and show what I can do.”
A fee has not been announced but the fee is believed to be worth £18m which would make De Gea the most expensive keeper in English football, he has also committed to a 5 year contract with the club.
De Gea has been watched by Manchester United for a while, since making his first team debut in a Champions League game against Porto in 2009.
Since then he has progressed to become the regular No. 1 at Atletico Madrid and also playing a big part in Spain’s success at European Under-21’s Championship, conceding only two goals in the tournament.
The Spaniard is the third arrival to Old Trafford this summer after the signings of Phil Jones and Ashley Young, as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to bring in fresh faces to replace the ageing members of his squad.
Ferguson also seems to be trying to conclude his dealings in the transfer market as soon as possible, trying to assemble his squad before the start of their American tour.
