Luis Suarez knows a good start is vital if Liverpool are going to challenge for the Premier League next season

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez says his team must hit the ground running if they are to be challenging for the Premier League title next season.

The Uruguayan was an integral part of the Kenny Dalglish-led revival in the second half of last season, making 13 appearances and scoring four goals in the process.

With pre-season fast approaching, the 24-year-old is confident the team can carry on in the type of form which saw them lose just five of their 19 games under Dalglish.

"I think the form we have shown over the second half of the season bodes well,” Suarez told LFC Weekly.

"We've been playing well and I think we've been getting into the type of form that we know we'll have to keep up for a whole season if we want to be title contenders.

"This is something we're optimistic about for next season and if we can hit the ground running and maintain the good form then I think we've got a good chance of doing well."

Suarez’s optimism for next season is clearly shared by his manager, who has already splashed the cash on Sunderland starlet Jordan Henderson, with The Reds hoping to complete more deals in the coming months.
